Introduction:

Bow down, as the most awaited AIO cooler make its way to our studio with its thrilling chilly performance for the all of the processors out there, coupled together with Asus’s remarkable aesthetic touch. Say Hi! to the ROG Ryujin 360, Asus showcased this beast at the Computex 2018 and we couldn’t wait to get our hands on this. However, the most highlighting feature of this AIO is the integrated OLED display which we can’t wait to test. From the initial phases, the ROG Ryujin 360 looks like a solid AIO cooler which can get the job done with ease. However, we aren’t going to take it easy on this one. As this is a new product line-up from Asus, and also this cooler is an Asetek OEM, we’re skeptical on the integrity of the ROG RYUGIN 360. Hence why we’ll go strong with our testing on this one.

A little briefing about the company. I’m sure you must have heard of the brand ASUS as they’ve been manufacturing computer components for about 30 years. And it is also one of the brands that are easily available in Pakistan. ROG, short for Republic of Gamers, founded in 2006, is a sub-brand of ASUS that handles the PC gaming oriented hardware.

Previously, On PGR we’ve reviewed a lot of products of Asus ranging from the ROG branded mice, keyboards and a Gtx 1050. We’ve always loved Asus’s products because they never fail to impress us with their adequate integrity of what they claim. It’s only a matter of time we’ll see how well the Ryujin fulfills that promise.

We’d like to thank Asus Pakistan for providing us with the review sample of the Ryujin 360. At the time of review, the Ryujin 360 is available internationally on Amazon at $326. The Ryujin 360 is not available in Pakistan at the moment but we’ll surely update this review if it arrives in Pakistan.

Without further ado, let’s dive straight into the review!

Unboxing:

The Ryujin 360 AIO comes in a huge cardboard box that is obviously needed for a radiator of 360 millimeters wide.

The front side of the box depicts a lot of eye-catchy labels which includes the product’s name and branding itself and a distinguishing logo of “Industrial PPC by Noctua” which is very interesting. We can also see the Asus AURA sync logo which indicates that it is compatible with almost every Asus Aura enabled product.

The back side of the box is very flashy, it shows a couple of special features of the Ryugin 360 which includes: OLED display, Embedded micro fan, Asus Aura Sync compatible, Noctua Industrial Fans and a Sleek pump cover. The rest of the info is accompanied by specifications and other boring stuff.

Other sides of the box aren’t that much interesting there’s repetitive branding all over these sides.

After opening up the box we get to see the actual AIO with its accessories.

Everything is placed in a box of recycled cardboard protected with seals and covers. The three Noctua fans are also well packaged in the box sitting there firmly. ROG products always “radiate” a premium feel.

In the box, there are screws, spacers, and brackets required for mounting on supported sockets in a separate bag. AMD’s are AM4 and TR4 (TR4 with a processor carrier), and Intel’s side is 1150, 1151, 1152, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011, 2011-3, and 2066. There are also screws fan mounts, radiator mounting screws in the chassis, and a quick start guide, quick installation with picture instructions. It should be noted here that the warranty is three years.

Closer Look:

Coming at the side of the cooler itself, we have a very odd yet interesting design over here because, although in official photographs the base looks like it is a one-piece pump, However, it is not.

What we see is a plastic cover that is placed on the base layer, purely for aesthetic reasons.

At the top is the transparent part beneath the OLED screen, the diagonals are RGB LED slats from the base, and the lattices on which the air current is generated by the base fan is on the hips.

Interestingly, Asus decided to incorporate Noctua’s industrial PPC fans with quality, durability and IP52 dust and liquid protection certificates.

The base of this cooler is very distinctive because it combines a copper water block, a water pump, a blower, an OLED display, and an RGB LED strip. The copper water block is 100 x 100 x 70 mm, and Asus is not too informative about what the pump is located above it. But the design is typical of Asetek and is one of their offerings. Above the pump is a 40-millimeter fan rotating at a maximum of 4,800 rpm.

The Ryujin 360 is a typical AIO cooler, which means it comes factory-packed, filled with coolant and closed. The base and radiator connect two threaded rubber tubes that are satisfactorily flexible and have a length of about 400 millimeters. On the radiator, the clamps are fixed and rotatable on the base, so that the pipes can easily be adapted to each position. Dimensions of the classic aluminum radiator are 394 x 121 x 27 mm, which has six fan mounting positions. Three of the coolers are coming, which are clearly quite enough. The Ryujin 360 is made of high-quality materials and we do not have any objections.

Above the pump, on a separate plastic part, or overhead, there is an integrated OLED screen of 1.77 ” display, it has a diagonal RGB LED strip that is compatible with AURA Sync software, all of which can be managed via a separate software called Live dash. Four connectors – three quadruple fans, one SATA Power and one USB 2.0 communication interface – come out from the base. The base comes with a pre-installed bracket for Intel socks, and the assembly and disassembly method is the same as for the rest of the Asetek coolers.

Software:

Unfortunately, this is where our hearts broke while testing the Ryujin 360 because we couldn’t get the software to customize the OLED feature to work on the Ryujin 360. We tried re-installing the Live-Dash software, removing all ASUS produced softwares including the Aura, armory, we also re-installed our OS, switching our motherboard from the Asus Crosshair VI to the Asus TUF Z390 and almost any workaround that could be rectified. Perhaps, the Ryujin 360 only supports a specific line-up of motherboards or if there might be another compatibility issue that we could not figure out. So, regrettably, we won’t be covering the custom OLED feature of the Ryujin 360.

However, we were able to control fans through the ASUS AI Suite or FAN Xpert.

Aesthetics:

In terms of aesthetics, the Ryujin 360 excels! The beautiful RGB diagonal pattern illuminates a full 16.8 Million Color spectrum which can be controlled with the Asus Aura Sync. You can also sync it with other Asus Aura enabled products as well.

We could’ve talked more about the aesthetics of the Ryujin 360 praising the OLED feature on it but for us, unfortunately, we could only see the ROG logo through it and we couldn’t control or customize it because of the software incompatibility.

Testing/Temperatures:

To begin with, we installed the AIO on the Asus Crosshair VI with Ryzen 7 1700. Mounting is simple – the brackets and spacers are necessary to attach. On the risers come the base with the support for the AM4 and then all together with the thumbscrews attached.

The radiator of this cooler is large, so you need a larger enclosure on either of the mounting places, be it on top or on the front side. If you’re mounting on the top, the fans need to be oriented in a way so that air is extracted out of the casing and clearly create the flow through the radiator, and if it goes to the front side then it should draw the air through the radiator and push it further through the plate towards the back of the casing. However, in our testing, we installed in the radiator at the top of our case which is the common case.

Let’s dive straight into the testing!

We used the classic set of software including HW Info/Monitor to control the parameters of the work and most importantly, the temperature. OCCT’s CPU test (Large Data Set, 64 bits, Infinite, the maximum number of threads) was used for the load. After an hour of load, we recorded the results and these maximum/minimum idle/load temperatures are shown in the graphs below. This cooler proved to be grateful for overclocking, and a somewhat weird fan that helps cool the VRM but is highly noisy and this is a major flaw because turning this fan off increases the load temps to a notable +5-7c which is a deal breaker. Asus could’ve implemented this fan in a better way. However, for us, noise isn’t a big deal because we usually use headphones while using our PC but for the person who doesn’t, it could be worse for him. Although the actual fans that cool the radiator are very well-designed and have little to no noise even when running on full speeds.

Results:

For the outcome, we’re going to compare the ROG Ryujin 360 with the DEEPCOOL Castle 280. Both of the coolers showed the extreme effectiveness with the Castle 280 being 5% better than the ROG Ryujin 360. At idle the temperatures don’t really matter much but in our case, we only saw a 1c difference between both of the coolers and the end results of the idle temps are more than adequate.

Now, if we talk about the Load temps at stock clocks of the Ryzen 7 1700 – we see a lot of difference here, the castle 280 defeated the Ryujin 360 with a reasonable scale here. We see an 8c difference here which shows that there is some headroom for the 280, we could push our clock speeds without breaking a sweat. But in the case of the Ryujin 360, we got a hint from the stock clocks that we’ll have to overclock in short increments. However, the temps on both AIOs are adequate enough to call both of them a great AIO.

Coming at the overclocked side of the Ryzen 7 1700, both of the coolers showed similar behavior. Not much to talk about here but to declare the Ryujin 360 as a great AIO for anyone who is looking for a good cooler to install in their PC.

Conclusion:

Asus didn’t compromise again with their ROG emblemed AIO coolers and they immediately proved their entry to the new market segment of CPU coolers. ROG Ryujin 360 is a high quality, powerful, innovative and interesting cooler. It is made of quality materials, in conjunction with the certified AIO system manufacturer Asetek. It’s powerful because of a 360-mm large radiator and three fans. Innovation is achieved with this small fan that generates a much-needed air stream over VRM coolers but failed to impress us because of its noise.

Regrettably, the OLED feature didn’t work which is again a deal breaker for us. Asus should work on their software, so it can support every motherboard. The cooler supports different platforms and is easy to install, precisely because it possesses Asetek standardization. Overall the Ryujin 360 is a good contender and we highly recommend it to all of the ROG lovers out there!
