A post on the Command and Conquer subreddit showcases expected remasters for classic games in the real-time strategy series. The remasters and different “exciting ideas” are meant to rejoice the series’ 25th anniversary, 2020. EA also appears to be stretching out to the modding community, with a column to OpenRA, a community that does open source remakes of old Westwood games.
EA is approaching feedback from fans by asking what games should be remastered. There are several titles in the fabulous strategy series that could be remastered, so it’s unclear specifically which will get the HD treatment at this point.
The post does not go into any specifics about the remasters besides that they will not incorporate microtransactions.
The post, which appears from Jim Vessella, a producer at EA who was the Lead Producer on Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath, tells that EA is well informed of the fan’s desire for the strategy series to retort to its PC roots. This objection came when Command and Conquer Rivals, a mobile entry in the series, was announced at E3 earlier this year.
Vessella also mentioned that:
“We recently announced Command & Conquer: Rivals, a mobile game set in the Command & Conquer universe. Following the reveal of Rivals, we heard you loud and clear: the… community also wants to see the franchise return to PC.”
Before Rivals, the most up-to-date Command and Conquer game worked on was 2013’s Command and Conquer. It was produced to be a traditional real-time strategy entry, before it was canceled in October 2013.
