As expected, HTC just announced a new launch event for an upcoming flagship. The event will be held later this month on the 23rd May, and the anticipated HTC U12 plus flagship will likely be the headline of the show.
HTC stated that the new upcoming flagship will be “a phone that is more than the sum of its specs”. As we can clearly see that the teaser also shows an image showing the future phone’s internals which includes the four cameras and a dual SIM slot.
The new Flagship HTC U12 plus will come with top-notch specification high-end hardware and specs which will be ready to go one on one with current flagships of Apple, Samsung, and LG.
Looking at the previous leaks and rumors, we can expect the HTC U12 plus to feature a 5.5 or 5.6-inch display with a Quad HD plus resolution of 2880×1440 pixels and Gorilla Glass 5 protection for that extra flagship level scratch resistance.
The hardware will most likely be top-end, the device will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, paired with Adreno 630 graphics and 6GB or 8GB of RAM, coupled with 64GB of storage space. MicroSD will also be supported for the removable storage needs of consumers.
The HTC U12 plus is expected to come in single and dual-hybrid SIM slot which can work as a microSD slot as well similar to previous Flagships of HTC.
The HTC U12+ is further expected to come in single-SIM and hybrid dual-SIM options, with the latter consisting of a nano-SIM card slot and another slot that can house either a microSD card or a second nano-SIM. On the software side, the smartphone will launch with Android 8.0 Oreo on board out of the box, with HTC’s own Sense UI on top.
Just like in HTC’s teaser image, the HTC U12+ is rumored to boast dual cameras on both its front and back, for a total of four cameras. On the rear, it would have a 12-megapixel UltraPixel 4 sensor with a f/1.5 aperture, optical image stabilization, and dual LED flash, and another 16-megapixel camera.
On the front, the handset is expected to sport two 8-megapixel cameras with optical image stabilization and real-time bokeh effects for the perfect selfies.
The upcoming HTC U12+ should feature IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for extra security, USB-C audio, HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi edition, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5, NFC, and GPS with GLONASS.
Lastly, the smartphone should pack a 3,420 mAh battery with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ rapid charging technology, as well as wireless charging support.
None of these rumored specs are confirmed so far, but it should all become official later this month, at HTC’s May 23 event and some of the leaks suggest that the phone will be priced around $750 USD.
