In Pakistan, Careem is the most popular taxi service. Careem has been providing good services and reasonable rates for taxi rides fares. The whole taxi service depends on the Careem App that is available on all major mobile platforms.
However, today Careem reported that its database has been compromised by a cyber-attack involving unauthorized access to their system resulting in data theft of over 14 million customers and users of Careem App.
As the reports states, the breach happened on January 14, 2018, that compromised the data of customers and captains (drivers). Captains and Careem customer who signed up after Jan 14 are not affected by the breach.
The ride-hailing company says it has seen no evidence of fraud or misuse related to this incident, taking responsibility for being open and honest about the cyber attack with consumers.
It’s sad to see companies like Careem that have a vast amount of users getting breached by hackers. It’s a very sensitive case and Careem should care about the security level of their database. However, In the official statement, they have assured their commitment to protecting customer’s privacy and data. The release said it wants to share with the people the actions they are taking to address the issue and to prevent it from happening in the future.
