The upcoming game by Valve has taken everyone by surprise after it was announced that its VR only game. We know that Valve has been releasing a lot of card games here and there, but this was their first major project after 12 years.

Let talk about Half-Life: Alyx System requirements. Firstly, you need a very good PC to run the game. We know that its VR only, but you still need a high-end machine. According to the system requirements posted by Valve, everyone needs 12GB of system memory. Previously, the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive worked fine with Dual-core CPU, Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD RX480, and 8GB RAM. This was the most average System Requirements for VR games.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • OS: Windows 10
    Processor: Core i5-7500 / Ryzen 5 1600
    Memory: 12 GB RAM
    Graphics: GTX 1060 / RX 580 – 6GB VRAM

Suppose, I wanted to play Half-Life: Alyx, first I need to buy a decent VR Headset, afterward I have to upgrade PC too?. Recently, Steam Held a survey in which they asked PC Gamers to vote on a small poll. The Results suggested that

  • Only around 45 percent of the Steam audience surveyed has 12GB or more of RAM
  • Only around 35 percent have a graphics card that would qualify
  • Roughly one-quarter of the Steam audience still has a CPU with fewer than four cores

Well, these results might just have considered Valve’s own decision to make a VR game. In my opinion, most of the gamers have 16 GB ram, these poll results come from Mobile Users, Laptop Users and so on. Hence, I do not believe that those willing to play Half-Life: Anyx will have low spec PC like these.

The Ram’s are currently cheap due to an on-going oversupply issue, thus case solved. If someone like me wanted to buy the latest Valve title and enjoy VR, i’ll happily upgrade my ram considering future games need more memory and rams are cheap..
