Nubia, a Chinese phone maker, partly owned by ZTE, just unveiled a new phone with a secondary OLED display on its back panel.

In a world full of notches, motorized cameras, or sliding mechanism to achieve a more screen-to-body ratio, Nubia went for a very extreme approach. Completely removing front cameras and forcing you to use the dual AI rear cameras (16MP f/1.8 + 24MP f/1.7) and the unique back display to capture selfies.

One of the most impressive things about the Nubia X is that, once you turn the back screen off, the screen totally blends in with the back panel, you can see in this video how to screen blends into the beautiful back panel.

The Display :

The displays are the main selling point of the new Nubia X. Primary display of the Nubia features a 6.26″ primary display with 2280×1080 resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio, 93.6% Screen-to-body ratio, and featuring no notch since there’s no camera.
The rear screen is a 5.1″ OLED display with 1520×720 resolution and the same 19:9 aspect ratio. You can also use the rear display at night because Nubia has applied a software three-level blue light filter which is certified by TÜV Rheinland (German business that provides inspection and product certification services) and it can help you with your sleep quality at night. The Nubia X has 8.4-mm z-height and weighs 181 grams and lastly, you can use the back OLED panel as a trigger for games, or when you are not using the phone you can use the back panel to display clock or a live wallpaper.

The Camera :

Nubia also declares that this camera’s portrait mode uses AI tricks to examine the subject’s facial features, ethnicity, skin tone, age, and other characteristics to set the right kind of bokeh and beautification. Furthermore, the AI software has also been equipped with over 4,000 scenes to automatically optimize images respectively.

The Hardware :

The Nubia X powers itself with the latest Snapdragon SOC, the Snapdragon 845, same chipset which is also present on many of the latest flagship devices, Adreno 630 GPU, a 64-bit LPDDR4X memory controller. The battery which is going to power this phone is rated at 3800 mAh. You can either get the 6 GB LPDDR4X or 8 GB LPDDR4X variant paired with either 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage, with no choice to add any external storage. Also, the Nubia X uses a multi-layered graphene heat spreader on it key components so your Nubia X doesn’t overheat while you’re gaming. It also features dual fingerprint sensors on both sides of the phone.

The Nubia X starts from $470 (3299 yuan) for the 64 GB and 6 GB ram variant, about $540 (3699 yuan) for the 8GB 128GB variant and $620 (4299 yuan) for the 256 GB storage, 8 gb ram, and blue light glass filter version. Altough you might want to skip it because it lacks many LTE bands.
