OnePlus is famous for making some of the best smartphones in the world. You’d never expect them to come out with a TV, however, that’s exactly what they’re doing, making a OnePlus TV.
The company first teased it back in September and later went on to ask fans to help name it. The launch is supposed to be this year or the next year at the latest.
Today a OnePlus Remote Control just showed up on Bluetooth SIG agency and has gained the certification under the model number: RC-001A. It supports Bluetooth 4.2 as seen in the listing, but more importantly, the certification shows that we might be hearing more about the OnePlus TV soon.
Back in April, the company’s CEO Pete Lau said that he sees TV remotes as outdated technology and thinks AI can be used to provide users with relevant information instead. Despite the claim, it seems that the OnePlus TV is in fact, going to be shipped with remote control.
There haven’t been any clear details or spec leaks, but according to rumors, the OnePlus TV will feature a 4K HDR panel with an onboard AI assistant (likely Google Assistant). The remote is probably going to have a dedicated AI button for controlling the TV’s UI.
Now that the OnePlus Remote RC-001A is Bluetooth SIG certified, we expect the launch of OnePlus TV to be eminent, possibly within the next few months.
