Razer Phone just got updated to Android 8.1
The Razer phone has been quite a success since its launch, it had all the charms of a modern flagship of today’s era. Razer Phone was named as the “World’s First Gaming Phone”, the phone didn’t fail to live up to that “Gaming Phone” tag because of the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC processor, 8GB of RAM, an Adreno 540 GPU, Dolby Atmos certified speakers and the world’s first ever mobile screen panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
However, Razer phone was shipped with Android Nougat out of the box, despite Android 8.0 (Oreo) being out for a while. A few weeks ago, Razer just revealed that the Razer Phone would get the Android 8.1 Orea update, skipping the 8.0 entirely, citing compatibility issues. The announcement also contained the developer preview of the update which users could sideload and experience the new update before the Official OTA.
Today, the update is being rolled out officially to all devices and can be downloaded through OTA. The update comes with all the basic Android Oreo goodies such as notifications channels, picture in picture mode, background app optimizations and much more. Although there are some exclusive Razer Phone features as well, for instance, you can double tap the lock screen to sleep. It isn’t anything exciting but nice to have.
New color modes are available in the new update as well. The vivid mode forces the screen panel to operate at the DCI-P3 RGB color space. Dolby Atmos app also got a makeover which allows the user to fine-tune the phone’s audio to their liking. Users can select various types of music genres when listening to music or game modes.
It’s great to see the latest and greatest Android version coming to the World’s first gaming smartphone. With this update, we are looking forward to the best outcome of the Razer Phone.
