Half-Life: Alyx was the most anticipated title this year. The game developed and published by Valve returned to the series after more than a decade. Apart from the Half-Life series revival, the game has also revived VR gaming.
Half-Life: Alyx was already over the Internet before being released. The game company wanted their own VR headsets to be used for Half-Life: Alyx and it went good until. It had so much demand Valve itself could not cope with. The VR Sets were sold twice all over the world, even before the game was released. Afterward, Valve restocked it few days before Alyx was set to release and then again it got out of stock for another 5 weeks time. Other companies like HTC and HP are now manufacturing their own VR Headsets.
Yesterday in an Interview with PC Gamer, Valve level designer Dario Casali shared a few thoughts representing Valve. He said that Valve will determine the level of success Half-Life: Alyx gets before jumping to a newer VR Game.
“At this point, we don’t really know what [another Half-Life game] would be—we don’t know if it’s going to be another VR title. We don’t know if it’s going to be a non VR title,” Casali said.
“The best thing we can do at this point is to gauge the response to this product. How are people able to enjoy it? How many people can we get into the VR platform? [Are] people saying that VR is now this essential part of Half-Life? We really don’t know those answers until we put the game out and we start listening.”
Well Half-Life: Alyx without a doubt has been a brilliant game. The game has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam, which is quite rare. It has an excellent reputation around VR games, and its seen as the best VR Game. The system requirements are also well matured, and it is optimized quite well. Furthermore, it has around 10000 + players online, and today it peaked at 42,858. Looking at these stats you must consider that not a lot of players like VR Games, and VR Headsets availability is a global issue. The game featuring a price tag of $20, has sold more than 30,000 copies. I’d highly recommend this game if you are Half-Life series fan.
