The change of dynamic in charging technology is to be expected as Qualcomm recently launched a better wireless charging in the form of ‘Quick Charge’ but to our surprise, it has been revealed that wireless charging will not be supported by OnePlus 7. Wireless charging technology is in the phase of budding yet according to Pete Lau, CEO, and hence this feature will not be present in the next flagship phone, the OnePlus 7. Lau is not in the favor of bringing the wireless capability to his phones until the technology has the potential of charging the phones quickly and without heating up hence OnePlus is going to skip this feature and so will the upcoming phones in the near future. It has been claimed by the CEO that Warp Charge, the company’s proprietary charging technology is the industry’s ‘one of the best’. At MWC 2019, Quick Charge for wireless power was introduced by Qualcomm for the purpose of allowing a fast charging on charging pads.
While confirming on the sidelines at MWC to Cnet that wireless charging will not be supported by the OnePlus 7, Lau quoted to the publication:
“OnePlus charging is one of the best. Wireless charging is far inferior.”
In order to keep its cost aggressive, the Chinese company is known for leaving out a few features whereas packing its phones with premium features. Though wireless charging technology is rapidly gaining popularity ever since Apple introduced it in its devices with the series of iPhone 8 but the mere factor of popularity doesn’t seem to catch enough attention of OnePlus as the element of inability to safely, securely and rapidly charge phones overshadows the consideration and leads the wireless charging to be an unattractive technology for OnePlus resultantly not integrating it into its smartphones.
Lau does not reveal a certain timeline for launching a safe wireless feature on OnePlus phones though he does assure that the company is working on devising a wireless charging which will not heat up and will perform better. Upon being questioned about the integration of the recently introduced brand new Quick Charge for wireless power into its phones, the CEO chose not to comment. Since the company prides its fast charging technology, it is not very likely that OnePlus would go for adoption of the Quick Charge.
Expected specs of OnePlus 7
It has been confirmed by the company that its next flagship phone will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. Where as far as the other specs are concerned they are quite under cover and a mystery at this point of time. The presence of OxygenOS based on Android 9 pie can be expected to be seen on the smartphone. As suggested by leaks recently, the OnePlus 7 has a pop-up selfie camera and will flaunt an all-display front.
A 5G prototype of OnePlus 7 was shown off at MWC but obscuring the design of the phone, it was covered with a case surrounding large portions of the display as well as its sides. It has been confirmed that the smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC and in order to facilitate 5G connectivity, the phone is packed with Snapdragon X50 modem. The price of the phone is expected to be higher than its predecessor by $200-$300 and is expected to be launched by the end of May 2019.
